Sharing a Video
One of the most important decisions you’ll have to make is how you are going to share the finished video, and specifically, who do you want to be able to see it! You might need to be particularly careful here if you are working with students, of course. So what are the options?
Canvas

YouTube
YouTube is what most people think of when posting a video online. However, it has some drawbacks for educational materials, worth noting. Firstly, it permits public or unlisted videos only. Secondly, it contains advertising and links to other ‘related videos’. And thirdly, it is dependent on an individual account rather than being associated with your official university account. You will need to create a personal Google account to be able to upload materials to this location.
Kaltura Media Space
This is essentially an in-house YouTube-style resource in which you can post videos but also control access to them, restricting to specific groups, or making them public. Everyone with a University of Galway computer account has their own space on MediaSpace and videos posted there can also be accessed and presented in Canvas. Find out about Kaltura MediaSpace.
Microsoft Stream & Office 365 Video
As part of our Office365 tenancy, we also have access to Microsoft Stream and Office 365 video. This is another video service where people can upload, view, and share videos securely.
